The Priority of Thanksgiving

The Priority of Thanksgiving

Hebrews13:15-17: “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. (NKJV)

It is important to remember once again that there really is not much that we can offer to God. We cannot praise Him with our finances because He is perfectly capable of creating galaxies of gold (and in any event, all that we have is a result of His goodness to us).  We cannot praise Him with our service because He has cherubim and seraphim and the hosts of heaven primed and waiting to use as His servants around the throne.  We can, however, offer Him our praise and it is our praise of thanksgiving which our God most earnestly desires from us.  So, “instead of vainly pointing to the faults of others, pour forth thine earnestness in praising God, and say thou unto thine own heart, ‘Bless the Lord, O my soul:  and all that is within me bless his holy name.’”  (Spurgeon)
